The Fab Five

I’m not talking about the five gay guys from Queer Eye for the straight guy, I am talking about  the Fab Five from Michigan.  There was a time when basketball hit it’s peak in Australia, I was one of those people caught up with it and to this day still am.  There was of course the Michael Jordan era, the Chicago bulls, the NBA being the merchandise powerhouse that it was, there was a lot to be cheering about in basketball.  But for me what gave me more love for the game was 5 young guys  who went on to shock the world. 

The baggy shorts, black socks, shaved heads, trash talk and their cockiness, were a signature of the five black freshmen.  Juwan Howard, Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson.  The starting five for the Michigan Wolverines who went on to appear in back to back NCAA finals. 

As part as my homage to them, I always make sure that I have black socks on, my shorts are baggy, and of course have a bit of swagger and cockiness here and there.  Trash talk though I never did have, although if I did I imagine my mouth going a bit too far.  But anyways for now the video below should explain all about the Fab Five.
