You can be my wingman anytime

“You’re free today right?”
“Yeh I am, we meeting her tonight?”

I had been asked in advance to backup Al Nasty, since he didn’t exactly feel comfortable with going to dinner with a girl he had some sort of interest in.  I guess he wanted to go just because 1. he’s a nice and courteous guy 2. he also can’t say no to girls.

We ended up in the city about 10-15 mins late and saw the girl that he had appointed to meet with.  Has we made our way to her, we talked about how we would leave straight after dinner and that was that.  We saw her outside the designated meeting place and her body language was not that all welcoming.

Ordered dinner, and made some regular chit chat here and there.  There was some awkward moments such as those awkward silent moments, when it just feels wrong because you know you wanna say something but just can’t.  If you were an outside observer you would definitely be able to tell that we weren’t enjoying the dinner.

Then the confrontational part came up when we talked about the past.  What happened in the past was that Al was just a nice guy and didn’t want to see her anymore.  So he simply stopped contacting her and just dissapeared.  But a change of heart occured when she sent an email on his birthday.  He thought he would give it a try and see how friendship would go.

Ms A: “Why didn’t you call me or email me back?”
Al: “Hmm, aahhhh”
*Silent awkward pause
Me: “BILL PLEASE!!”

That was me basically just saving the situation before it got out of hand.  We both went our seperate ways after and concluded that whatever happened in the past, was probably best left in the past. I still keep in touch with Al’s past here and there, but unlike the past times, I think she’s truly forgotten about him  and doesn’t ask about him.

Random post I know but it was something I’ve been meaning to right about.  The fact that it always pay to have a wingman bail you out and I admit that I play that role quite well.
