The ring is meant to be an expression of your love and wanting to spend your life together, not reflective of the love you share. However if you are shallow enough to believe that the size of the rock, reflects the amount your partner cares for you, then should you really be getting married????

In old school rules, the engagement ring is meant to be approx 1 months salary of the person proposing.

If you are spending more than that, then where do you draw the line for the wedding ring, wedding, house etc???

Yeh but that’s the thing if you spend too much on a ring, what happens to the wedding, the house etc. It’s more sensible to just buy a ring that is like 3-5k and that’s good enough. Anymore and that’s just suicide. Also a ring in the end shouldn’t reflect on the love you have for someone.

Debs, there’s no freaking way a diamond ring that you describe is gonna cost $1500 or less. Unless it’s a diamond the size of a sand, and even that is going to cost your bf at least $2k.

As my bf always says (he’s studying Chemistry, btw), diamonds are made of carbon, and they decompose (yes, really!).

That said, I would really love a diamond wedding ring. The engagement ring isn’t that important – a silver one will do for me. But I’d like my wedding ring to be white gold with a diamond in the middle. Doesn’t have to be too expensive though, something $1500 or less is fine.

I’m not that expensive, am I? =P

Well.. Like Giselle, I have inexpensive taste. In fact, I dun even like diamonds.. =P

But that aside, I think the size of the rock or the price of the ring does not really matter. If he loves me enough to want to spend the rest of his life with me, that’s all I need from him.

To love and protect me, to always be faithful and to make me his everything, what girl would want expensive diamond rings over that?

The size of the rock on your fiancÃ©’s finger is analogous to your relationship. The bigger the rock, the weaker the love. I may just be saying that because I have inexpensive taste… or because I am disgusted by the trophy wives that parade their rings around, attempting to claim their social status with the number of karats on their finger. Scratch that, I’m just bitter.
