This Woman’s Work

Two months ago, I visited one of my favourite clients and dropped off some flowers as a way of saying goodbye and all the best to her child that she was expecting.  She had been trying for 3 years and this time, the news was what she had wanted. She was roughly entering in her second trimester and there was some exciting times ahead.  I made the bold prediction that she was going to be expecting a girl and that I look forward to seeing her in the future.  Fast forward to the present time and I had been meaning to visit her as I was curious about her progress.  I was making my way to my car when I received a call from my former manager who had informed me about that the client’s sister wanted me to be informed of the tragic news that I was about to hear.  Ms S had suffered a miscarriage and she was 7 months into her pregnancy and had just held a funeral for her stillborn child.

I was left speechless and saddened by this and just it had just completely through me off my day.  I’m not sure how things are meant to work and why did such a tragic loss happen to someone who I regard as a beautiful and gentle soul.  I’m not even sure what to say when I do get the chance to see her, but my condolences to Ms S and my deepest apologies for her loss.
